This hybrid turbo is designed for petrol engines Bmw 35i with a power output ranging from 299 to 340 hp. Its design incorporates an MFS compressor wheel Performance, a 360° bearing stop and high-speed balancing on a Cimat VSR test bench.
The documented applications include, in particular, the following: Bmw 1 Series E82, 3 Series E90, E91, E92 and E93, as well as the Z4 E89, with N54 B30 A or N55 B30 A engines depending on the version.
This setup uses an MFS wheel Performance designed for adjust the flow rate d'compressor air, whilst maintaining a configuration' d'installation' plug & play.
The larger diameter of the wheel means the casing needs to be re-profiled d'admission'. This association aims to adjust the compression capacity and flow rate d'air, with behaviour depending on the engine configuration'.
This version uses a wheel with different dimensions and geometry, in an 11+0 configuration. Its operation must be tailored to the overall design and objectives of the vehicle.
A hybrid turbo utilises a suitably adapted turbocharger design for to receive modified internal components. Depending on the course, the preparation may cover the compressor wheel, its dimensions and geometry, the machining of the housing, the thrust bearing system and balancing.
The aim is d'adjust the compression capacity and flow rate' d'air'. However, a hybrid turbo is not defined solely by the appearance of its impeller: it is the combination of all its components and how they are configured that determines its performance.
MFS stands for ‘Milled From Solid’, meaning a wheel machined from a solid block. This manufacturing process does not, on its own, guarantee an increase in throughput d'air'. A standard MFS wheel can retain a geometry equivalent to that d'origin'.
An MFS wheel Performance can be designed with a geometry suited to the application, in particular a specific profile, diameter or blade configuration. A standard MFS wheel can be just as shiny as an MFS wheel Performance. It is not its appearance that determines its performance, but its geometry and its ability to move more d'air'. A higher flow rate can support an increase in power when the engine has been properly tuned, although this alone does not guarantee results.
The compressor wheel draws in and then compresses the air fed to the engine. Its diameter, profile, height, width and the arrangement of its blades all influence its aerodynamic behaviour. The right geometry can move more d'air under certain conditions, but a larger wheel does not automatically guarantee better performance and may affect response time'. The result also depends on the casings, the turbine wheel, the boost pressure and the engine tuning.
The 360° stop, documented for each stage, helps to distribute the axial forces acting on the rotating assembly. The rotor is balanced at high speed – 150,000 revolutions per minute – on a Cimat VSR test bench, in order to minimise vibrations and mechanical stresses. This balancing does not compensate for faults in assembly, lubrication or d'oil supply'.
Appropriate engine management is required for make the most of the hybrid turbo’s features. Depending on the level of preparation, it is advisable to check whether or d'adjust the mapping, boost pressure, fuel injection and charge air cooling' d'the intake, the exhaust and the transmission'. The wastegate must be adjusted during the fitting and remapping of the ECU. No increase in power is automatic without proper configuration.
⚠️ WARNING — IMPORTANT BEFORE ASSEMBLY
Search for and correct the cause of the previous failure before d'fit the turbo'. Check the lubrication circuit, the supply and the return d'the oil and the cleanliness of all the pipes'.
Check the intake and ensure there are no foreign objects present. Carry out turbocharger spool-up in accordance with the relevant guidelines and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.
The wastegate must be adjusted and the ECU configured during installation and tuning.
If a lubrication fault is not rectified, it may lead to the turbocharger failing again.
Check the turbo part number d'Originally, the OEM and manufacturer part numbers, then check the make, model, generation, body style, engine type, power output, years of manufacture and engine code'. Having the same motor does not always guarantee compatibility.
⚠️ Check your turbo’s part numbers
Before placing your order, Compare the part number on your turbocharger d'origin' using the references given in this fact sheet. Having the same motor does not always guarantee compatibility.
If you are unsure about the identification or part number, please contact us with the reference number shown on your turbocharger.

View new turbochargers →A standard exchange turbo allows you to replace a turbocharger whilst returning the old part where a deposit is required. Our catalogue includes numerous part numbers for from various makes and engine types.
View standard exchange turbochargers →Hybrid turbos are designed for set-ups requiring greater air flow d and higher performance potential than a standard set-up. Specifications depend on the turbo, its tuning and the engine configuration.
View hybrid turbos →The turbo Cartridge, also known as the central turbo cartridge, comprises the main rotating components of the turbocharger. ALFI TURBO has over 6,000 Cartridge for turbo part numbers.
View turbo Cartridge →Our catalogue covers a wide range of d applications fitted with d a turbocharged engine.
A single engine type may have been fitted with several different turbochargers depending on theYear, power output, engine version or technical evolution.. The application alone is therefore not always sufficient for to accurately identify the correct turbo.
Before ordering, note down the part numbers shown on the identification plate d of your old turbocharger. This may be d an OEM part number or d a part number from the turbo manufacturer.
Compare these part numbers with those listed on our product pages.. If in doubt, our team can help you verify the part number you are looking for before you place your order.
A loss of power, an unusual whistling noise, oil consumption d, abnormal smoke or poor engine performance may be linked to a turbocharger fault.
However, a fault that appears to be turbo-related may also stem d from a lubrication issue, d from contaminated oil, d from a foreign object, from the intake or exhaust systems, or d from another engine peripheral component.
It is therefore important to investigate the cause of the fault before fitting a new turbo or a new Cartridge.
Since 2012, ALFI TURBO has been assisting private individuals and professionals in identifying and replacing turbochargers.
A turbocharger failure may be the result d of another engine problem. Before fitting d a new turbo or Cartridge, identify and rectify the cause of the original fault to d avoid d damaging the new part.
